Director, Madewell Strategy & Business Development

The Director of Strategy & New Business Development will be responsible for new business development, directly supporting the VP, Head of Strategy & New Business Development with an emphasis on scoping & quantifying white space opportunities in the market for Madewell. The individual will also be responsible for executing new businesses through proof of concept / pilots - partnering with all levels across the organization including senior-level executives to develop a roadmap for Madewell’s near and long-term growth agenda.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Report directly & work closely with the VP, Head of Strategy & New Business Development to identify, analyze, scope new initiatives which will result in expanding Madewell’s total addressable market (through new business lines, models & new market entry)
  • Work to identify & operationalize focused proof of concept (in market) for priority new businesses in addition to ensuring / collaborating to build suitable tools & metrics exist to track / measure success during the proof of concept / pilot
  • Provide recommendation / analysis & key insights upon completion of proof of concept
  • Partner with all levels of the organization (including senior-level executives) to drive cross functional alignment ; present research & clear insights / recommendations
  • Engage with external businesses & industry experts to learn & influence new business opportunities – while remaining forward-thinking about opportunities and risks in the broader industry
  • Provide strong customer focused, data driven approach to unlock new insights, innovation
  • Own competitive & market positioning / scenario analysis with all new business development opportunities
  • Support VP of Strategy & New Business Development in long range planning, corporate strategy & governance processes via crafting Board communication and building / conducting market analysis & competitive benchmarking 

 

 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED:

 

  • Must have a minimum of 8+ years’ experience within a dynamic high performing organization
  • Experience in consulting / retail / consumer products & strategy is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in consumer & growth strategy experience
  • Excellent problem solving & analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, multi-tasking, organizational & follow-up skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an experience with senior executives with the ability to present, recommend & influence
  • Superior skills in PC applications – including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
