Director - Allocation

The Director of Allocation is responsible for the successful implementation of Allocation, localized assortment, and sizing strategies of one or more Divisions.  They lead a team of Distribution Planners and Analysts through the successful development, execution and communication of financial and inventory plans and strategies to meet or exceed sales, gross margin, GMROI and inventory goals. They are a key partner to both Merchandising and Planning in developing both pre-season and in-season plans by providing store and channel level analysis and recommendations. They are critical in managing the Open to Buy for their Division and identifying opportunities for growing and improving the business. They are a key partner to Supply Chain and our DC Operations leaders to help control work flow and prioritization.  They also play a critical role in striving for PO accuracy.   They will be the “voice of the business” in multiple system implementations to support the growth of Madewell and the improvement of our customer experience with regard to inventory position by location. 

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities

 

Financial Planning and Forecasting

  • Develop and communicate comprehensive department financial & product strategies and ensure alignment of multiple department plans that connect to financial targets and OTB;  Be an active participant in top-down to bottom-up department plans to division plans and forecasts
  • Actively participate in open-to-buy activities at division and department levels incorporating call outs from the flow forecasts in terms of opportunity and or risk to the financial forecast
  • Recommend departmental strategies for packing pre-packs, size balancing and inventory balancing and forecasting optimization
  • Develop reporting alongside Enterprise Reporting team that will inform insights at the store/size level
  • Manage DC inbound and outbound forecast for Supply Chain;  Manage reticketing and STO workload; Manage channel inventory forecast to look for opportunities to balance stock:sales across stores and Ecommerce; Manage ES out of our retail DC to fulfill Ecommerce orders
  • Work with the forecasting director to ensure proper seasonal factors/curves as well as tuning of the forecast for best business results 

People & Business Process Management

  • Manage team of Distribution Planners and Analysts by creating a collaborative, innovative and results-orientated environment
    • Balance workload priorities across departments and team to ensure successful execution of allocation strategies
    • Support the career development and skill development of team to ensure job satisfaction, retention and future talent development 
  • Maintain Distribution business processes and serve as subject-matter expert for improvements
  • Be the “voice of the business” in strategic system implementations and improvements

  • Systems and Tools Acumen: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and have aptitude to learn technical applications quickly. Working knowledge and former implementation of JDA allocation and replenishment
  • Microsoft Office skills required (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint).  Experience with JDA Allocation and Replenishment preferred

 

Education and Experience

 

  • BA or BS in Related Retail, Engineering or Financial competency
  • 6 years Retail Planning or Allocation experience desired 
  • 2+ years managing people
