The Proofreader will handle all copy editing and proofreading duties across channels, ensuring accuracy, consistency and clarity in the Madewell brand voice while adhering to grammatical and style standards. Responsibilities include proofreading all digital and print marketing, creative and social assets, as well as building and managing product copy galleys and maintaining style guides. This role will collaborate cross-functionally, working closely with creative, marketing and merchandising teams.


The Proofreader will have impeccable attention to detail and strong time management skills, with the ability to manage quick deadlines and longer-term projects. The ideal candidate will be a stickler for grammar rules and have familiarity with Chicago Style.

We want you to…

  • Copy edit, proofread and fact check all digital and print content, including online product copy, site features, emails, social media, ads and signage.
  • Update and maintain department guides, including brand treatment, product history and standard product copy. 
  • Maintain consistent product copy across all categories and oversee collection of missing product information and copy for monthly launches.
  • Update product copy from QA callouts and field queries for other teams.


Oh, and by the way, you…

  • 2-3 years proofreading experience
  • Able to proof a wide variety of copy under demanding deadlines.
  • Quick and self-directed learner.
  • Flexible and open to evolving style standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and work well in a team setting.
  • Proactive and willing to take ownership of projects. 
  • Strong attention to detail while being able to see the big picture.
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Sketch and Chicago Style preferred.
