Senior Merchant - Madewell Womens Merchandising

Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and develop all direct reports; foster collaborative work environment and build strength within the team
  • Demonstrate executive presence, ability to navigate complexity, work with creative and technical teams, and collaborate across a senior leadership team.
  • Actively assess employee strengths and developmental needs
  • Act as a role model and provide leadership with the brand by motivation and inspiring team members to work cooperatively and remain focused
  • Empower your team to think creatively and analytically in regards to business challenges and successes
  • Manage up to senior leadership by keeping lines of communication open in regards to team development, personal and professional achievements, as well action plans for current business results

 

Pre-Season

  • Acute awareness of market trends
  • Strong product point of view
  • Expert on the competitive environment and applies knowledge to positively impact direction for the upcoming season
  • Ensures product strategies are being met at design board reviews and supports and/or provides feedback on silhouette, fabric, and color based on hindsight/strategy.  Recommends additive or duplicative/unproductive assortment.
  • Review hindsight and strategy, provide feedback for development on the best ideas – set the strategy for the team

 

In Season 

  • Change future division/department strategies where needed and provide appropriate and timely direction to the cross-functional team in order to react quickly to customer and business trends
  • Create and present a compelling omni assortment that will meet financial targets and will support divisional and brand objectives
  • Demonstrates ability to take calculated business risks
  • Reacts to business landscape and quickly alters course if necessary
  • Encourage your team to identify the areas of the business that need attention, drive meaningful dialogue that supports a well-defined strategy in order to action on slow and fast turning styles.
  • Utilize product strategies and analytical results to plan all merchandise buys, in accordance to budget, for each quarter and present the line at assortment and investment reviews where needed. Re-access strategies as more data becomes available.
  • Ability to evaluate financial and business indicators, evaluate reports and translate the data into actionable information to drive results
  • Influence marketing, styling, and visual to believe in and elevate key items and big bets to ensure financial success

  • Bachelor’s degree
