Manager - Madewell Operations

The Cross-functional Operations Manager serves as a key business partner to the Design, Merchandising and Sourcing teams to drive a variety of strategic, analytical, and operational projects that support the overall growth of the business. This person will lead the management of the seasonal product creation calendar and ensure all teams are aware of key priorities and deliverables. This position will collaborate with cross-functional leadership to identify opportunities for process improvement and make strategic recommendations for the business. This person will provide leadership and consultation to impact business initiatives such as monitoring development targets and deliverables, communicating changes across categories and functions to ensure alignment and timely execution. The role reports to the Director of Cross-Functional Operations and will work with partners in the following functional areas: Sourcing, Design, Merchandising, Tech Design, Raw Materials, and Finance.

 

Responsibilities:

  • General Day-to-Day Management
    • Foster strong relationships with the cross-functional teams
    • Provide analytical support to determine the root cause of process issues
    • Support ad-hoc operational and strategic initiatives as required
    • Perform business process analysis and support in the design and improvement of new and existing processes and tools
    • Support sourcing team and SVP of Sourcing in turning analysis and recommendations into effective and concise management presentations & summaries
    • Understand departmental processes and how they impact data tools and reporting
    • Partnering with Invoice Operations Team to validate bulk liability spend
    • Perform business process analysis and assist with the design and improvement of new and existing processes and tools
    • Regularly review process/tool adoption and effectively resolve roadblocks

 

  • Calendar Creation & Management
    • Oversee the seasonal product calendars for various categories, including but not limited to: Men’s & Women’s Apparel, MWL, Nonapparel, Denim Apparel, PO
    • Ensure all seasonal deliverables and deadlines for Merchandising, Design and PD are met, and that all teams are fully prepared for milestone meeting efficacy
    • Anticipate any risks to deliverables and create paths for mitigation and resolution
    • Support the cross-functional product teams in managing overall operating efficiencies and opportunities for speed models where relevant
    • Partner with cross-functional leadership team to identify opportunities for integration improvements, and lead various cross-functional initiatives as directed
  • Product Development Process Support:
    • Support adherence to corporate product development deliverables
    • Own and create reporting and KPIs to provide hindsight and feedback to teams and new processes
    • Make recommendations to improve efficiency and cross-functional engagement of relevant reporting
    • Collaborate with cross-functional team leads relevant PLM systems execution and or updates

 

Operational Discipline

  • Establishing measurement of criteria for adherence to processes and tools
  • Own analysis and publication of select strategic initiatives following quarterly business review
  • Understand PLM process, workflow and future enhancements of databases to inform reporting

 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. MBA a plus
  • Project Management/Operations Experience in Retail or related field
  • Expertise in product life-cycle activities and development timelines within a fashion environment
  • Experience in working with Calendar and/or PLM systems
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in an operational or consulting role, preferably within a Sourcing organization
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the apparel industry
  • Strong track record of project delivery and benefits realization
  • Experience in defining and implementing projects and initiatives and coaching others through the process
  • Experience with large scale organization transformations a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and results-driven problem solver
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to manage and manipulate large amounts of data
