At Madewell, good days start with great jeans. We’ve lived and breathed this mantra for over a decade to build brand love and an incredible business in women’s denim (and everything she wears with jeans). We quietly launched a men’s denim capsule a few years ago which has organically grown into a burgeoning new audience for us. And now he wants more from us! So we are expanding our men’s team and seeking a cool-obsessed Men’s Art Director to take Madewell Men’s to new heights.

Candidates for Madewell Men’s Art Director should possess a strong track record of creative excellence, cool multi-platform campaigns, fresh and progressive thinking, and collaboration. This individual will lead the brand creative expression for Madewell Men’s: from styling and photography to digital and social content. The brand creative team is responsible for translating design concepts and marketing needs into inspiring and effectives stories and campaigns—ensuring consistent brand expression across all customer- facing materials, marketing campaigns, digital content and omnichannel experiences.


The Men’s Art Director reports into the Vice President of Brand Creative.



  • Own the creative direction that evolves and differentiates Madewell Men’s, being obsessed with the brand’s purpose, relevance, and consistency

  • Lead Madewell Men’s brand expression including art direction, styling, social and digital content, and stills and ecommerce photography

  • Collaborate with the Women’s Art Director on dual-gender campaigns

  • Serve as a strong team leader and collaborator—ensuring the team is working towards the same brand vision for men’s, setting high standards of creative excellence and fostering a highly creative and collaborative team culture

  • Foster a “brand-first” mindset and set an example for strong cross-functional collaboration with design, merchandising and marketing

  • Help to conceptualize, design, and produce campaigns ranging from large-scale brand campaigns to webpages, emails, social posts, and more; present multi-platform, multi-channel creative solutions and gracefully defend creative decisions to leadership

  • Help evaluate talent and develop staffing plans to support business demands. Act as a coach and mentor to associates, providing them with development opportunities

  • Drive actively and authentically inclusive representation across all creative content



  • 7+ years of experience working at a top-tier brand, brand agency, or creative agency; preferably, at least 3+ years working in-house at a brand

  • Experience and understanding of men’s retail and creative

  • Exceptional conceptual, art, styling, and design fundamentals

  • A deep understanding of digital content: ecommerce, editorial, social media, and video

  • Ability to keep a pulse on the fashion and cultural zeitgeist including, but not limited to brand, casting, styling, content, and social relevance

  • Ability to balance art and commercial—creating content that drives engagement and consumer desire while also keeping the brand at the forefront, never stagnating

  • A track record of innovative and creative campaigns and digital content

  • Demonstrable experience partnering with marketing, design, and merchandising teams

  • Extensive leadership experience with demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and grow a team

  • Demonstrated experience with goal setting and delegating responsibilities

  • A collaborative and passionate champion of the brand, the customer, and the team
